Tunes of the Surf World
In the early 1960 a new sound, influenced by the California surf culture, came to life. Southern California bands like Dick Dale and his Del Tones, The Ventures, and The Sentinals were a few of these bands. These bands created the soundtrack to the Southern California surf scene. Many of these classics were also used in early surf videos like “Endless Summer” and “Barefoot Adventure”. With many radio stations in Southern California playing this new sound the surfers and “surfer chicks” would blare “Miserlou” in their surfboard toped Chevys as they headed for the beach. With tremolo driven hooks and danceable beats these songs became a staple sound of the bikini clad board toting surfers and their crew.
